Summer Term - week 4
Hello Sounding Out families,
Now I have to confess that I’m beginning to feel a bit like Billy No-Mates here ☹ It would be lovely to hear back from some Sounding Out parents or pupils, especially pictures or videos of the children playing their instruments! Everyone who sends something will have their name put in a draw for a £10 Amazon voucher! Ping me a reply and it will make my week before half term!
To get you started, here’s our Director of Music Mr Bersey on the piano and me on the ukulele – we’re still practising:
I’ve also posted last week’s challenge for another week – send in the answers for a lovely musical prize. See below.
Today, I spoke with the Patron of Sounding Out, Laura van der Heijden, a young cellist who, like Sheku who we met last week, won BBC Young Musician of the Year. Here’s a short video of her performing in Germany. Very excitingly, Laura will be sending a special message to all Sounding Out children in the next email.
Today, I am sharing a short video made by one of our King’s School students, Caspar, playing the flute. Caspar is 16 and loves singing too. What do you think this piece might be about? Perhaps it might inspire you to draw a picture or write about it?
Do you like jazz? Do tune in to Cabin Fever later today: Every Monday at 8pm our Director of Music Will Bersey will be playing jazz with his son Henry on saxophone. They are streaming live on YouTube from 8pm: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWfskXgQ-p61LLLYgbzobsg/
CHALLENGE: WIN A MUSICAL PRIZE!
Can you name the 5 musical instruments in all these close-up photos – email me your answers in the right order before Friday and I’ll draw a correct answer for a fun musical prize for all the family.
If you’ve missed any previous emails you can catch up with them here. Look out for my Friday email and have a great week,
