Summer Term - week 5

Hello Sounding Out families,

I hope you had a lovely half term week and an opportunity to play and listen to some music. Well done to Jasmine from St. John’s for winning the close-up music instruments quiz – her prize is on the way!

Will Bersey, Julie Evans and I have been discussing plans for resuming Sounding Out lessons and we dearly hope to do so as soon as possible. The King’s School is likely to remain closed for a while longer, but we hope to be able to welcome all our trumpeters and violinists back in September, and some new pupils to join them soon after that. We’ll keep in touch as plans develop, but let me know if you have any questions.

In the meantime, I hope that the children are making the most of their instruments and practising a little every day. Thank you very much to the families who have shared videos of their children playing – keep them coming!

TUNING YOUR VIOLIN

Those of you learning the violin will probably need to tune your violins every few days, and our violin teacher Lise has sent this useful video to help parents with this:

Let me know if you need any help with this. It will make a huge difference if the violin is in tune!

LISTENING

Our trumpet teacher Natalie has a very musical family! Every Thursday they has been performing for the neighbours as they clap for the NHS. I think you’ll recognise this from Toy Story:

If we could be together now, our pupils would love to play to you. Instead, here they are coming to you virtually!

Here’s Aliah on the violin:

And Elliot on the Euphonium:

Tonight is the last Cabin Fever with our Director of Music Will Bersey playing jazz with his son Henry on saxophone. They are streaming live on YouTube from 8pm: https://youtu.be/ljWopobEDlU

And finally, some lovely trombones from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kgjZGOnhVTs&list=PLufiufOFr1VFPPTFQy697l0RUQG8C_PI8&index=11

You can listen to lots of their recordings on their RPO At Home playlist.

If you’ve missed any previous emails you can catch up with them here. Have a great week,

Christina
